The product I received is what I expected. I didn't have any issues similar to others, as my map was not creased. However, my map edges are frayed or splitting. It appears to be new. If I was looking for a map to put in a frame, this one was not it, but since I want to use it, it will work well. When I read the map was laminated, I thought it would have a thick plastic coating. The laminated part is a very sheer coating that is only on the top. If you get it near water, I expect it will absorb the water very quickly, but it can be kept pretty clean with a little effort. It will meet my needs and desires completely, but maybe not others.

Map is the size as described. Quality feels good. However it is a laminated map that arrived with creases. Poor packaging....I just lowered the rating to one star. I was unable make the map flat. Shipping Completly ruined it.

This National Geographic laminated map of China is perfect for my intended use. It arrived rolled in its original shrink wrap, well padded in a box which was significantly larger than the roll. Adding another small item to my order allowed me free shipping, making it a great deal even when paying the list price. The map itself is the excellent quality expected of National Geographic products, with sturdy lamination. While I do not recommend the laminated version for travel use due to obvious folding issues, it is excellent for planning purposes or wall hanging.

First, I should point out that while I sympathize with the disappointment of the previous reviewer, his review does NOT describe THIS map.I'm not sure if he wrote his review under the wrong product heading or what, but this is the same as all other National Geographic wall maps, with the full image on one side and blank white space on the other.My only minor gripe with all of the NatGeo maps is that I would prefer the paper stock be a little heavier/thicker, but for the price, I really can't complain. All in all, a very nice, detailed map with a beautifully rendered image.

I would have preferred a fold up map. Didn't realize that it was in a tube----however as long as I am writing this map came with another purchase in the same box and I thought that it was very poorly and sloppily packaged. No damage so I have no complaint other then to inform you that you may want to check on your packaging department.

i have undertaken an extensive review of chinese history and a map is essential to this study. it is also helpful to examinethe pinyin transcriptional methods. the map is 1:8,000,000 scale, but contains stunning detail of towns and geographicfeatures. i keep it handy to examine local events in the history as i come across them, and, with the use of coordinates,i find locations easily on this map. it serves as a good overview as more detail would require a smaller scale.

In both English and Chinese, easy to read and navigate for the home traveler. We dry-mounted it on foam core and mounted it to the wall. We use color coded flag pins to indicate each family travels in China. We go often w/home in Guangzhou. Excellent quality that rivals the finest maps I've ever seen in Europe and Asia. Seller shipped them quickly in quality protective packaging.TNX!

Much too small for a country as large as China. This needs to be at least 50% larger and preferably 100% larger. At this size the city names are almost overrunning each other and it's difficult to see much map detail other than the names.

This book is really blessing my grandson, who is a freshmen in high school. He was having problems adjusting to high school and the associated peer pressure. We just don't want him to be naive, we know how sexualized every aspect of life has become.

In the Kindle version -I have no idea what the recipes are like. I cannot read them.The pages have been scanned in rather than set in Kindle format. That means they are tiny on an I-pad or E-reader. You can adjust them one by one with your fingers, but then then words fall off the page and you are constantly chasing them around trying to make sense of ingredients, descriptions and directions.I gave up. It was too much trouble.I will never know if the recipes were good, great or awful.

I really thought this book would be great, I previously purchased their Haitian recipes book and the recipes in there are soooo wonderful and they stayed true to the way Haitians actually cook the dishes. This book disappointed me on sooooo many levels. I live I south FL so am VERY familiar with the way jamaican food looks and tastes. The brown stew chick recipe in here was a joke (among many other let downs) just reading thru it and the ingredient list, I know for a fact that that's not the way true jamaicans make that chicken. The recipe looks so nasty and devoid of any of the true flavors of brown stew chicken. The only recipes in here that are decent are the soups (if it into soup) and the loads of jamaican drinks recipes that they provide in the "dessert" section of the book. Such a disappointment.

I don't do a lot of reviews but the person who said they bought it and got a "scanned" copy, don't know what they got... I ordered it the same day (today) and got a perfectly formatted electronic kindle copy with color photos (when I pulled it up in the app and no color on my kindle). Now on to the content. I really appreciated that they provided a selection of the dishes I love: ox tail, brown stew, goat but that they also included very traditional dishes that you just don't see in Jamaican restaurant's here in the states. Now I know there are a few I won't be cooking, don't have a source for bull penis nor is it high on my list to try. But there are several that I am very interested in cooking. All in all, I find that many of the cookbooks​ I download end up gathering "dust" in my kindle but this is one I actually will be using.

Love the show and love this cookbook. The recipes are authentic and simple to follow. The photos are beautiful. And the finished product (the few that I've tried so far) are scrumptious! A marvelous achievement. Congrats to all involved.

I love this cookbook. Have given as gifts. Though Jamaican and over 70 years old, I never cooked brown stew chicken and my last foray into oxtail and curry goat was over 40 years ago. My sister in -law is a superb cook and her Jamaican food is to die for, so never bothered myself. But was referred to this book on a Prime promotion by my daughter-in-law and have not looked back since. I have set myself a goal of trying the recipes from this fabulous book which I don't cook , and my expert Jamaican cooks, raved over my results. Next to conquer Mackerel Run Down and the Harddough bread. Thanks Chef.. Love the way the book is divided from soups to desserts. Recipes are simple, ingredients readily available where i live in the USA... Very authentic and .everything tastes great..

I bought this as a gift for a friend that was always asking me to cook some Jamaican food for her. She loved it. I took a look at some of the recipes and thought they were easy enough for her to follow.

Easy to follow directions, since some ingredients are not used regularly they point in the direction to find them and explain how identify them.

wanted to read The City and the Stars after reading about it in Michael Benson’s book on the making of 2001: A Space Odyssey. And I felt in the mood for some classic science fiction.Clarke’s story is set in the far distant future, when the Earth has turned primarily to desert. The story begins in an isolated, self-contained city, Diaspar. In this distant future, social structures, political structures, and even the biology of the characters has long disconnected from our own. Life is all too stable and idyllic in Diaspar. The people of Diaspar know little to nothing of the Earth outside the city, and, in fact, show little curiosity about it or even their own history. Their lives are cyclic, being electronically infused into new (fully grown) bodies in life after life, with a kind of hamster-wheel feel.The plot involves the threat of destabilization. And here I liked very much the inherent monkey wrench that Clarke threw into the carefully planned life of Diaspar. Two elements — the role of a “Jester” and the role of “Uniques” assure that stability isn’t absolute, and that adaptation and change, while facing formidable barriers, can happen.The distance in time, the artificiality of life, and the unfamiliar but neatly drawn social structures give the book a kind of fantasy feel that i didn’t expect from Clarke. By contrast with the books I’m more familiar with, like Childhood’s End or Rendezvous with Rama, as well as 2001 itself, there’s less continuity between our own current lives and the characters’ lives here. There are technological elements, as in those other books, that are prophetic — virtual presence is a prominent feature — but even there, this is farther from “hard science fiction” than what I associate with Clarke.This is not my favorite of Clarke’s books. It ages well, but it doesn’t rate with the others I’ve mentioned — Rendezvous with Rama, Childhood’s End, 2001. The fantasy feel isn’t my thing, I have to admit. And there is, for Clarke, I think, an odd compression of the end of the story. The story really takes on an impressive galactic scale, but that vastly enlarging scale isn’t enacted or shown — it is actually told through one character’s speech. The speech outlines a story I would have liked to have read, as played out in a novel itself.

This book has not aged well, if it ever were good. The writing is tedious, with everything being “great“, either as in good, big, or bad, but always great. A random plot, if you even can call it one. Things happen, and Alvin solves all problems, because Alvin is great. It's about a teenager, as if written by a teenager.It's a billion years into the future, but people are still surprised when speech recognition works. I think that the billion years into the future thing is what I have the hardest time accepting, it's mentioned over and over again, but at the same time there is no reflection on how much would have had to happen over that time period. Mountains would have eroded and new continents would have formed, but it's as if everything has been on pause. A thousand years would have been enough to convey to the reader that a long time had passed, but instead it had to be the ludicrous number a billion.In the end everyone blindly trusts the words of a stranger and decides to over night rewrite their history and change their way of life, they've only cemented it over a billion years, but whatever.

"The City and the Stars" is a major work with a lively story and an imaginative view of the far distant future. Even a billion years in the future, humankind can fall into relatively dark ages where life falls into static patterns and man's spirit withers. In "The City and the Stars", Arthur C. Clarke envisions mankind having fallen into two cultural niches, each limited by their own approaches to life. Diaspar, a city in which some 10 million people lives have been extended by technology to 1000 years, and each life ends when its personality is encoded into a nearly omnipotent computer for later reincarnation, has become the womb of humanity. Earth itself has become a desert and Diaspar believes it is the only human remnant. However, another culture has survived in Lys, where human lifetimes are short and intense. The hero of this story is Alvin, a Unique, i.e., a person who has been created anew and faces life for the first time. Alvin is free of some of the cultural boundaries that limit Diasparans and, in particular, he is a free spirit who cannot resist the lure of experiences beyond the city. His explorations of the world outside and their consequences for Diaspar, Lys, and the future of humanity are the central features of the plot."The City..." is a major expansion published in 1956 of "Against the Fall of Night", which was published serially in 1948 and in book form in 1953. The former version has a very tightly focused plot dealing mainly with two aspects of the distant future: 1) description of the nature of technology and society in Clarke's vision of the distant future and 2) the explorations of its 20-year-old protagonist, Alvin, and the consequent disruptions that will apparently lead to renewed vigor and growth of humanity. This earlier version is a compelling story in its own right, and I have reviewed it separately at http://www.amazon.com/review/RV8G92FK092Y2/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm . "The City..." expands the earlier version while retaining the central plot line in nearly unchanged form, with greater depth in handling the two original themes, plus a number of additional themes. This version adds significantly in areas of psychology, sociology, and philosophy. This expansion elaborates on the motivations of the main characters and the cultures and increases the amount of food for thought."The City..." sacrifices the concise, driving style of "Against..." as an inevitable consequence of the additional themes, and the relative advantages of the different approaches will depend on your reading preferences. My recommendation is that "Against..." would be more fun for young readers (pre- and young-teen), while "The City..." would be the more enjoyable for most of the older crowd. One surprising thing occurred as I read the two novels back-to-back: as a scientist, I wasn't burdened by concerns of realism while reading "Against..."; oddly, perhaps because of its efforts towards greater realism, I was frequently inclined to evaluate ideas and events in "The City..." on a scale of ultimate likelihood!I recommend "The City and the Stars" for SciFi and Arthur C. Clarke fans. Given its far-future setting, wide-ranging ideas, and intriguing story, it should have continued appeal for the next 50 years.Clarke's best work, I think, is "Rendevous with Rama". Don't miss it. I'd also recommend Isaac Asimov's Foundation series; the original Foundation trilogy is roughly contemporary in writing with the early Clarke SciFi novels and most of the early and later Foundation books are compelling.

What's impressive is that the author delivers a lot of very good, practical advice, in a logical order, in so few pages. Many text books would take a few hundred pages and be less clear.I'll give you one example: many books discuss the "non sequitur" fallacy and give an example where the "non sequitur" is wildly off point. Weston uses a much more realistic and useful example where the non sequitur is quite subtle because it has lots of facts about the topic -- but does NOT speak to the point it pretends to support.If you want to learn more about this subject -- or ANY subject -- you should read other books, too. But with this book alone, if you refer to it as you write, you, as a student or an adult, can learn to think more clearly and to write more clearly.I ordered a copy for each of my children. It's a book they'll use in middle school, high school and college.

A great handbook for students in high school or college. It is the "Elements of Style" of manuals on argument.

I experienced many, many courses in my University Pre-graduate and postgraduate education. Most of those courses are in ancient, long-term memories, even archived. One of the few courses standing out in my present consciousness is Logics Course. While I may not remember every detail, I remember quite a few. And, this book brings back all of my memories, only expressed in modern vernacular. I cannot express my praise well enough; if you want to crystallize the rules and standards for logical thinking, for critical thinking and analysis, read this book. It isn't the only source, but it should be a required addition to every student's library. Clear, concise, easy reading with modern examples.

Everyone who desires to think for themselves should read this book, and it should be mandatory reading for all high school students. The only improvement to this book is the list of logical fallacies. Although it mentions most the formal fallacies, it misses some, such as “Provincialism.”

I honestly love to run my mouth and debate anything for the sake of debating. However, presenting an argument in a dignified manner where one actually hopes to convey an intelligent thought is rather challenging. This book was not the thrill of my life, but a read that is definitely worth it. It was for school so if you can keep one eye open while reading this book then you will learn something valuable either by accident or on purpose. If you buy this book to improve your mind and not for school then kudos to you. It's certainly a good choice.

Clear, accurate, logical, interesting, well written, and indispensable. I've read a few other books on logic, and I found some of those books to be poorly written and the thought process of the writers not logical. This one is the best so far.

This book has served its intended purpose perfectly! Without lengthy explanation, it gives a concise yet clear enough summary of the basic rules of arguments so that you can use it as a handy reminder. Even if you are a fresh starter, I would still recommend it, because it's easy to read. You may decide later if you're still interested in reading more extensive and serious literature, but when finishing this book, you already have a good idea.

As usual, exciting action. As usual strong independent women. As usual a bit too much sex, but could just flip it. Characters are believable. Actions and descriptions are very real. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Great to have all four books at once. I didn't have to order separate. Couldn't put the books down. The two main characters worked well off each other.

They fell hard and fast. When Laine meets with danger, Wes has to use all his Ranger skills to save her. Susan Stoker wrote the perfect cowboy/Texas Ranger story.
