According to my great niece (Sophie) that I buy all the books for, loved it. She looks forward to reading books and with Amazon they state the age groups (6-8) so I never have a problem picking out a book. Saves a lot of time. Actually she brought some of them to school to show her teacher and class. The teacher was impressed and asked where she got them and she replied, My Auntie Jann and of course Amazon....there are so many to choose from!

This was a fun book. My grandkids loved it but of course they love all the Froggy books. My grand-daughter really liked the shirt that the dad wore in this book. She said he was more grown up as a dad. After reading this book, we always analize the book to see what Froggy could have done better to not have so many problems. There are always learning situations in these books. Always enjoyable books.

my 6 year old is a pretty fluent reader and he loves all the Froggy books. We were so excited to find a reader version. This book is great, my son loves it but it includes words like "kayaking and tetherball" so your reader may need help.

Typical Froggy story. Fun read. Pages don't stay open easily..

I brought this book for my granddaughter. She loves it. And I enjoyed reading it. I ordered three additional Froggy books.

This has to be one of the best Froggy books. It is so cute and the pictures are great. Froggy had his mind made up that he wanted a dog, but his Mom wanted him to get another type of animal. good learning too about taking care of a dog. Must have.

My son LOVES the Froggy collection. The stories are really cute, although repetitive. But this is great for younger kids.

What can I say? I first found out about the Froggy books when I was substituting in the local elementary school Media Center. I saw how raptly the children listened and how they all ran up afterwards to try to check the book out for themselves. Since that time I have bought most of the series to read to my granddaughter, Emily, who loves them. She especially loves the part where one of the characters calls out "F-R-O-G-G-Y!!". Each time I finish reading one of these books, Emily immediately says "Again." That's enough for me!

Nelson Mandela, by Kadir Nelson

From School Library Journal

Gr 1-5-This picture-book biography matches Mandela's outsize achievements with large, powerful images, resulting in a presentation that will seize and hold readers' attention. The front cover features a portrait of Mandela that fills the space. His pleasant but determined expression immediately projects a sense of strength. The title and author move to the back cover so as not to compete with the opening image. A stark graphic design incorporating black, green, yellow, and red, colors from the South African flag, on the title page helps set the stage for the narrative. Nelson's paintings range from poignant, when Mandela's mother tells him good-bye as he leaves home for more education at the age of nine, to exuberant, when Mandela and 100 men arrested for protesting apartheid respond by dancing and singing, to inspiring, when people organize rallies demanding his release. When freedom finally comes, "a colorful sea of people" celebrate. Mandela's heroic struggle might be new to many children today, and Nelson's dynamic treatment provides enough detail to give a sense of the man and to acknowledge his important place inhistory.-Lucinda Snyder Whitehurst, St. Christopher's School, Richmond, VAα(c) Copyright 2011. From Booklist

Starting with the full-page cover portrait, this glowing picture-book biography offers a celebratory introduction to Nelson Mandela’s life for young readers. Clear free verse and handsome, unframed paintings follow the iconic leader from his tribal childhood and his work as a young city lawyer through his political leadership against the brutality of apartheid, his long imprisonment, and then the triumph of his election as president of his country. The story doesn’t mention conflicts both political (the splits in the anti-apartheid movement) and personal (the bitter rift with his daughters), as well as the continuing inequality South Africans face. Still, words and images bring close the cruel apartheid segregation in daily life, including one double-page spread of Cape Town’s glorious beaches with the sign that reads White Area. Then there is the view of prisoners on Robben Island hammering rocks into dust. In contrast, the final pages show today’s nonsegregated beaches and people of all races standing together free at last. A long final note fills in more. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: With an internationally beloved leader as its subject and a multi-award-winning artist as its creator, this title is sure to be on every library’s must-purchase list. Preschool-Grade 3. --Hazel Rochman

This is a great book for school-aged readers. My children were born in South Africa and, while we no longer live there, I want them to know the history of Apartheid, the ANC and the New South Africa. This book is a kid-friendly introduction to the amazing work of Mandela and can teach kids many lessons about integrity and equality.

I would not have known about this book except that the author/artist was interview on the NewsHour (PBS) at the time--it was last week--of Nelson Mandela's death. I don't have the vocabulary to describe the artwork. But when one reviewer says she was disappointed because this is a children's book (yes, of course it would be sold as one), I can only say that this book is for everyone who has a love for the life and work of Nelson Mandela. This is a book that you can count on as being just one of those absolutely perfect gifts. The text is straight forward, but it is the art work that is so awe-inspiring.

Beautiful book. Inspiring story. I first saw this book at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. i donated it to my granddaughter's school library.

I bought this book to encourage my kids to learn about Mandella. The pictures worked for those who could not read that well, excellent short reading for the ones who don't like to read, and the story was told and understood brillantly short with pictures

I purchased two copies of this book as holiday gifts for two young boys just before the passing of Nelson Mandela, and I'm so glad I did! The illustrations are outstanding and bring the story to life! This is an excellent way to educate a young child on the life and legacy of this great leader in a captivating and meaningful way! I wish this illustrator would also produce a coffee table book of great leaders for adult consumption!

Used with my class as part of a cival rights movement in January around MLK Day.

The cover itself is worth framing and hanging up on a wall. What a beautiful portrait of Mandela for this age group. Anything Kadir Nelson has illustrated/written, is worth while. A stunning tribute.

Accurate historically and beautiful atristic representations of President Mandela, his wife and the people of his country. Excellent work Kadir Nelson. As a teacher, I give this book an A+. Auntie O

As a librarian, I’m always on the alert to see which books would be well received by larger segments of readers. In terms of non-fiction, one has to be careful. But this is one of those gems that belongs in an elite group as it will appeal to both fans of World War II spy stories (fiction), and equally to history buffs. It will definitely appeal to pigeon fanciers, with ‘fancier’ being the term for those who like pigeons and devote time and energy to taking care of them, and perhaps for show, perhaps for breeding them. I remember having heard stories that homing pigeons were used in World War II, but didn’t realize the extent until I read this book. While this book is about the pigeons and the military services, the author notes it’s really about the people who loved and respected and managed them, their civilian and military handlers. But the pigeon narrative is only a part. The core and spirit of this book is a story about a small group of patriots in the resistance in Belgium who risked everything to get messages to British Intelligence. It’s more compelling than many spy novels because it’s real. The authors of what was possibly the most useful piece of intelligence delivered by a pigeon (Number 37), took the time to snap photos, which are included. The author carefully folds this suspenseful story in with events happening simultaneously in other countries. (This is occasionally exasperating; I suspect you’ll be eager to find out the ending.)The narrative also contains many stories of brave pigeons doing what they do best by carrying out dangerous missions and flying across the Channel from France and Belgium to their ‘lofts’ in England. They were also used in North Africa and other parts of Europe. We find out how the birds were brought overseas and dropped from airplanes in boxes with parachutes (hard to believe, but it was clever). We find out the kind of intelligence the birds brought back, how it was received by government agencies, and the counter tactics of the Germans, who, after being initially extremely irate, began to fight back. Think hawks, interceptions of pigeons, roasted pigeons, and threats to local villagers. Finally, this is the story of some of the World War II efforts by spy agencies, competition between leaders and their organizations, bungling because of lack of shared information, spies within the ranks, less-than-competent assets, rivalries, and leaders’ evolving recognition of just how valuable the birds were. As current celebrities and politicians have been known to say ‘mistakes were made’. The author uses many records from government archives and includes notes at the end explaining terms and events. It’s quite fascinating reading.

The book gives a fascinating insight into the role of pigeons in warfare. I was attracted by the avian and human stories but found the details of the beaurocratic machinations and infighting were beyond my levels of interest. Recommended for those with a special interest in the back room details of WW2.

Good read. I loved learning about WWI and WWII and how the pigeons played a part. Learning more about the British intelligence was interesting. The general info on pigeons was interesting.

And German services. Needs a report about the Soviet endeavors. It makes for great reading with suspense and detailed additions.

Did you know that homing pigeons were used in world war II? I didn't. I thought they were only used in the first world war. But they were used, and quite creatively. At the time, using humans to get messages and vital information gathered about the enemy and the placement of weapons, locations of bases..etc. to England was taking about 1/3 of a year from the time it was collected to the time it ended up in British hands. Using pigeons, one could get the message in a matter of days after it was written instead of weeks or months. This way the intelligence was fresh, not outdated.Operation Columba: The Secret Pigeon Service by Gordon Corera is the story of how these pigeons were used, the organization who controlled their usage, and those in occupied territory who risked their lives in sending Britain information via the pigeons. An idea was implemented, to drop British homing pigeons into occupied territory by means of baskets (with parachutes attached), included in the basket was a little pigeon food, instructions, a question sheet, a pencil, and very thing paper to fold up into a tube to attach to the pigeons leg. The goal was that some of the townspeople would find them and would answer the questions and send them back, and any other information they could give.It was a method that was more likely to work for Britain than for Nazi Germany. As the author notes about the Germans: "If they had dropped pigeons into England, it is hard to believe many people would have chosen to fill out questionnaires." But the British could drop them into France, Belgium and other German occupied territories as there would be a high chance that a lot of the people were discontent with the Nazi takeover. Though whether or not the people would be willing to risk their lives to get information to the allies was another question. One family in particular helped out. They found one of the pigeons and, instead of merely telling what they knew offhand, they decided to be very proactive actively gather information to send. A friend of the family, a priest, helped as well. He had been a mapmaker during the previous war, and an artist too. He used his skills to transcribe all of the information they gathered onto the thin sheets of rice paper sent with the bird. He even drew tiny maps. He wrote the notes so tiny that he suggested those who received them via the bird use a magnifying glass to read them. He initially named their group the "Leopold Vindictive", signing their papers with their initials so that Britain could address them via radio broadcasts, tell them when and where more pigeons would be dropped, and so that Britain would know when information came from their group again. But Getting more pigeons to them was quite the task, made much more difficult by the chaotic conflict within the organizations in Britain as to who should have control over the pigeon operations. Sadly, the account of this family's brave attempts to help doesn't end very well. All in all, it's an interesting account. It's filled with suspense and drama. It's quite frustrating and sad at times. But still an interesting account of this operation in history. Thanks to the folks at William Morrow for sending me a free advanced review copy of this book (My quotation [above] from the book may not be exactly the same as the final product). #4,703 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Just like the 4th book in the series, this book felt like filler.I am a fan of Ken Lozito and the First Colony books, however, 50% of this book was spent following a character. It could have been done in a more concise way.I also feel that enough time has been spent on the Ryklars. How about new tech? FTL to go back to earth? It might be too early for this, but the ground work can be started in next book.I do still enjoy these books and will continue to buy.

Conner finds life and when he does, it becomes a mission of discovery to figure out to communicate with this NEIIS soldier or is he? What happens when you have first contact and how do you know what their intentions are? I enjoyed this story because Conner's background as a soldier and his ability to think through things becomes a real force in understanding the NEIIS. To find the original inhabitants of the planet is one thing, but to understand how they fit into all strange things on New Earth such as animal life and were they created as weapons of war? I found this a question that I had hoped to get answered by the end of the story, but the story continues. This book leaves a lot of room for the story to continue to unfold as there is intrigue with the new governor and some top people at Sierra so I can't wait to see how this unfolds going forward. Ken writes a great story and I look forward to his next work. One of better writers in my opinion.

The book didn’t get past the first page before the first eyebrow reference. I thought the previous book was ridiculous with the eyebrow references, he’s stepped it up in this book.In a span of 8 lines of writing, Connor has three eyebrow movements that somehow need to be added to the story. At this rate by the end of the book the people will no longer be speaking with their mouth, they will all be communicating with just their eyebrows dancing all over their faces.

I am so engrossed with these character and the story line, I will be sorry to read the last page of book six. I will miss sharing my lunch and spare time with these characters. I haven't felt this way since reading "Bag of Bones' by Stephen King. Which was outstanding. Mr. Lozito has developed each character to the point of feeling like a close friend is sharing a vacation or experience they have had. I love the man character 'Connor', who is a powerful entity. Caring for those around him and willing to die in the quest of maintaining their safety. I have always been one to wonder "what's over that mountain". Or wondering where this road goes....love the adventure of the unknown, and these books have been all of that for me.I you want to participate in a roller coaster ride into our future, then read all six of these books. Excitement on every page.

This novel has managed to keep the series going in a much more interesting plot twist than previous installments. Honestly, I put this series down after book three, read a couple other books before I picked this series up again. The author has left himself a broad list of possibilities where he can take this series. It took a long time to develop this story but it has been worth it.

Discovery was an excellent addition to the series and sees Connor and Noah tasked to explore an unknown and recently discovered NEIIS site. That's about all I can say really, as anything else will reveal too many details of the plot and the secrets found in Discovery are best left to the reader to......well....discover. Suffice to say this latest book in the series had plenty of action, more plot developments and mysteries surrounding the disappearance of the NEIIS (the former inhabitants of New Earth). Looking forward to the next book in the series :)

Connor goes on an excursion to another site but diverge to other and found the incredible... NEIIS'S on stasis pods. A new adventure through New Earth, following an NEIIS that's survived. The NEIIS kidnap Connor and the adventure is one rescue through the continent. At the last, everything reduce to humans self preservation or genocide and the consequences... To add to everything apparently the governor side's maybe are planning a coup of the CDF with the consent of the governor...

I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant to follow this series after the Vemus were finally exterminated but the last 2 books have been as entertaining as the first 3 and I'm looking forward to seeing how this new story line develops. As long as the author keeps writing, I'll keep reading.

If you're a fan of sharp wit and love coloring, you'll need this one in your collection. Dinosaurs need to make a living too and each picture describes the day-to-day challenges they face in all its hilarity. The drawings are crisp, many with thick lines, great for markers and crayons. The paper is on the thin side, similar to a regular children's coloring book, but that doesn't present a problem since it's a one-sided book. Just use a piece of paper behind the page when using markers.

Dinosaurs, no matter their chosen path in life, must work hard to keep up!This is a fun and interesting coloring book, making it a good choice for any age.The paper is good quality. The pictures are only on one side of the page, so you can't see another picture on the other side of the page. Very nice.Suddenly, everyone wants to read my coloring books... :)

I gave this book to a 9-year-old boy for Christmas. His dad is a meth addict and his mom is disabled but a great parent. She is concerned about him not having a good role model who works and shows responsibility. She was happy for her son to have this book that shows that it is normal to have a job and that jobs are interesting and worthwhile. In fact, that little boy has been talking about what he wants to be when he grows up and has reflected on what he learned from this book. That is a better outcome than I would have expected but I'm pretty happy about it. I like children's books that provide some important life lessons in addition to being fun to read. I'd like to thank the author, Theo Nicole Lorenz.

This is a really cute coloring book. I bought as a gift for Christmas but I think I'm going to buy one for myself later. The artist draws with a lot of whimsey, and while not complicated, it sure looks fun to color. It was advertised as an adult coloring book but I could easily see a kid around 8 enjoying this just as much as any adult. I appreciated the artist little notes in the beginning and I really enjoyed the accurate dinosaur names. This is a lot of fun and I highly recommended. My only complaint would be that it's rather short. It's so cute I didn't want it to end.

This coloring book is great, its nothing you could just pick up at Target, it includes dinosaurs doing tech support, a t-rex waiter who has to use special grabbers to hold things, and dino celebrity chefs. Its pretty funny. As soon as I got it I started coloring! I am an adult but I love to color, this book is perfect, I also bought Unicorns are Jerks from the same author.

This is a hilarious coloring book that you will purchase more likely for humor than actual coloring endeavors. Although PG-rated, the book caters more toward and adult audience. The book includes a series of creative vignettes depicting the ennui of dinosaurs who have menial jobs. The book makes for a good gift, coffee table display, and conversation starter.

This coloring book is absolutely my favorite coloring book! I bought 2 of them (one for me and one for a friend) and it keeps me laughing. Most of my coloring books are the same thing - paisley designs meant to keep you calm or whatever but I find them to be overwhelming sometimes which is so not the point of adult coloring. This one is simple in design with captions of what's going on in the picture and I love it. I mean come on... Dinosaurs with jobs? Sign me up!

Silly and fantastic!Very basic drawings such as the classic children's coloring books we're used to.Not violent, sexual or risqué. Okay for all-ages.

This book as so random and silly that it just may be perfect.

Basic inbfo is excellent, but the hotel reviews need to be updated, and the restaurant reviews are equally dated. If you have an cell phone or tabulate, use TripAdvisir as at least it's up to date.

Too concise information. Not good to navigate, I always needed to go back to contents to reach a different section. In all, it helped me to advance the explanations the guide would provide.

Rather useless, there's not enough depth of information.

Very helpful for anyone traveling to Rajasthani! Great information and recommendations.

Great travel advice. Nice and compact to travel with. A most have for Rajasthan!

A terrific little book that I enjoyed far more than I expected. I'm sure there are all sorts of subtext that the post-modernists professors love to pour over. For me, taken at face-value, it was an interesting detective story, as our fearless heroine attempts to make sense of an ages old conspiracy--involving the mail, no less--and how it continues to this day. Looking a level deeper, it is the story of a suburban housewife who is given the chance to have an adventure and runs with it. How much of what she sees is reality and how much is in her own head? Impossible to say, but the mystery only makes the mystery that much more enjoyable.

I feel like I have to read this book at least twice more before I could write the review I'd like to write. Perhaps I'll read it again and find time to alter these notes at a later date. For now, I'll just focus on the concept of the entire narrative as farcical critique of upper class Americana.Pynchon reveals anti-heroine Oedipa Maas as an adulteress on the novel's first pages, executor of the wealthy estate of a recently deceased ex-lover, Pierce Inverarity (How great are these names, by the way? All of Pynchon's choices for character names in this book are hysterically funny). Her journey from there is hilarious, surprising at every turn, chock full of conspiracy theory and peppered with meaningless sex and sexual advances. Oedipa's obsession with the mystery she believes Inverarity left behind for her to solve, that of an underground mail service called the Trystero, speaks to the boredom Pynchon assumes for the American upper class of his day, the longing for a purpose and constant uncertainty as to whether that purpose really means anything at all. Here are three quotes where I feel Pynchon writes very directly with regard to American life:"`I came,' [Oedipa] said, `hoping you could talk me out of a fantasy.'`Cherish it!' cried Hilarius, fiercely. `What else do any of you have? Hold it tightly by its little tentacle, don't let the Freudians coax it away or the pharmacists poison it out of you. Whatever it is, hold it dear, for when you lose it you go over by that much to the others. You begin to cease to be.'" (page 113)"You're chicken, she told herself, snapping her seat belt. This is America, you live in it, you let it happen." (page 123)". . . maybe even [stumbled] onto a real alternative to the exitlessness, to the absence of surprise to life, that harrows the head of everybody American you know, and you too, sweetie." (page 141)The Hilarius (another fantastic name, of course) quote from page 113 says to me that Pynchon feels we Americans need our fantasies, need an element of craziness in our lives because the easy life here isn't necessarily what people expect it to be. It's set up beautifully by Oedipa's desire at that moment to give up her search. The quote from page 123, Oedipa talking to herself about what she should be able to do, how she should be able to affect outcomes and events, delineates an expectation so many Americans have that's, unfortunately, not always met with success. The most powerful quote of the three, in my opinion, is the one from page 141. Whether Oedipa's mission was real or contrived, worthy or a waste of time, here she describes "everybody American" she knows as living with "exitlessness" and an "absence of surprise to life," and includes herself in that group. Through Oedipa and her adventure and her own conflicting opinions about it, Pynchon conveys a strong desire to break from quotidian life in the leisure class, a yearning for any sort of struggle but an uncertainty about that very yearning.Part of what Pynchon writes in The Crying of Lot 49, in my opinion, presents random sex and infidelity as one answer attempted by people in Oedipa's shoes, the bored housewives and their working husband counterparts, and this purported solution comes up empty time and time again. Oedipa herself seems to realize this as the novel progresses, succumbing to seduction early on but then rejecting it and feeling disgusted by its perpetrators later. Surely a long essay could be written just about Pynchon's treatment of sex in this book, but this review is getting long, so I'll cut it off here.I loved this book for all of its complexity, this review is just a few thoughts on one theme that stuck with me.

It is precisely facts that do not exist, only interpretations -- NietzscheShall I project a world? -- Oedipa MaasThomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49, rich in allusion, multilayered, and bristling with scintillating gems of simile and metaphor drawn from thermodynamics, mathematics, and information theory, is an example of an increasingly prominent school of imaginative literature in which the novel decidedly is constructed as a problem of semiotics or meaning that is more like a puzzle than a story. As such, it begs the question whether it marks a point in the development of the novel analogous to the period soon after the perfection of the camera when painters all but abandoned representational art for the "abstract" art of the mind's eye. The first suggestion that CL49 involves a similar departure comes by way of its protagonist's very name, Oedipa Maas.Fatuous and Improbable, Oedipa is not so much a name as a signifier that directs readers to other texts, bringing to mind Sophocles' Oedipus Rex, Freud's Interpretation of Dreams, and perhaps even Deleuze and Guattari's Anti-Oedipus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia. So extensively does the text prompt such sleuthing for cross-references that diligent readers soon find themselves immersed in something much like the mind-bending discovery phase of Oedipa's effort to execute the will of a former lover, California tycoon Pierce Inverarity."As things developed, she was to have all manner of revelations. Hardly about Pierce Inverarity, or herself; but about what remained yet had somehow before this stayed away." A northern California housewife holdup in the suburbs at the novel's outset, during the 1960s, Oedipa, educated, childless, and very much a ward of the 1950s, sees herself as being like Rapunzel, imprisoned in a tower and waiting for someone or something to free her.Once, years before her feckless marriage to Wendell "Mucho" Maas, she had seen Inverarity as the agent of her liberation, but "all that had gone on between them had really never escaped the confinement of that tower." Her effort to uncover and settle Inverarity's vast, shadowy, and complicated holdings launches her into what might be called an epistemological mysteries trip in which every revelation begets a riddle and ever riddle becomes a clue to some deeper mystery leading her to wonder whether she had lost her mind, stumbled on a global conspiracy, or fallen for a cruel hoax.As hyperbolic as her situation may seem, it presaged a real-world case in point. Three years after the book's 1966 publication, it was rumor that The Beatles' Paul McCarney had been killed in a 1966 car crash. Evidence of both his death and his replacement by a look-alike, it was said, could be found when certain Beatles songs were played backwards and when various Beatles album covers were examined closely. In the mass mania that followed, the turntables and styluses destroyed by playing records backwards were innumerable, as were the hours spent pouring over album covers. For some, as with Oedipa, everything, even the slightest coincidence, got immeshed in the conspiracy; and the weight of it all was more than they seemed able to bear.Whether madness, hoax, uncanny coincidence, or conspiracy, Oedipa's trip permits this observation: Such meaning as one finds in life springs from the same human tendency as that which makes the Big Dipper and Orion, the hunter, appear in the night sky: that 20-watt apparatus between ones ears connects the dots even when no such connections actually exist.Nor does restricting the mind's operation to the norms of science offer an escape from uncertainty and the prospect of illusion. Instead, such efforts confine the self to a realm that admits nothing that can not be objectified. Yet those other things--such as love, community, and hope--would always remain at the twilight edges of awareness where, under the circumstances, they can only induce dread.

Pynchon has a way of kidnapping your mind into an elaborate machination that is part conspiracy and part hoax. It is a form he uses in many of his works to communicate a particular symptom of a highly complex society eternally suffering the mid-to-late stages of a terminal lifestyle disease. It's pretty magnificent for those of us inclined to believe we're living in a dystopia, and have for some time.
