I was amazed by this author's total lack of research in this story. It is supposed to be set in 1840 in rural Montana. The heroine was supposed to have arrived in town by train. Railroads didn't reach Montana for another two or three decades. She talked about a character being in a hospital when hospitals did not exist at the time in small communities. Doctors had rooms in their offices for seriously injured patients and if there was a major disaster like a mine accident, the local hotel or bordello was used to house the injured. The glaring historical problems took away from an otherwise nice story.
I enjoyed this book immensely. Clara had been married before and it was a disaster. Her husband was verbally and physically abusive. Finally, her husband divorced her because she was barren. (But I'm not convinced, since they always blamed the woman back then. Perhaps, we will have a surprise in an upcoming book.) Upon arriving in Anaconda, Montana, she is disconcerted to find that she is to live with her intended while they get to know each other. But it turns out to be a good thing for them because they had a lot of problems to sort out. Sometimes, their problems were comical, sometimes dangerous, and sometimes sad. But by the end of winter, they are in love. It was a lovely and believable progression. As an added bonus, there are three dogs in the book. Get the book. I don't think you will be disappointed. Enjoy!
I enjoyed this story and it kept pulling me in. Minor misspelling and error in word choice, but not distracting to read. There were some things that did not work for the time period which pulled you out of the story, furniture choice words, and some descriptions didn’t seem to fit. All in all I enjoyed it and would love a story about Ed and Lillian maybe. ðŸ˜
Characters were likable, and although the outcome was as expected, an enjoyable read. Could have benefited from editing as there were a few typos and a couple places where there was repetition. However, my biggest complaint were items that didn't fit the time period of 1840 Montana, such as a hospital in a small remote mining town with few families; payouts from mine owners upon a death or injury, overstuffed couches, gas stoves (pray tell, where would gas have come from in 1840 in the Montana mountains?) and the like. Story would have benefited from some research.
A Bit Different but very well thought out with an unusual plot. Determined plan from both man and woman to NOT fall in love didn't make it through their umarried winter!
This book will remind you of a great loss that has been in your past or present and how you handled your grieving. A lonely man and a lonely divorcee find each other and work through their grief.
Story good. But reading drug out with too much of what they were thinking. Not enough action between main characters
I would not recommend this book. Very boring. Skipped over most of it. Just way too much she thought he thought. Very little conversation.
