The book on it's own would be kind of hard to learn. It's sometimes hard to figure out exactly what they're wanting you to do by the drawing and the arrows that are pointing whichever way your hand is supposed to be moving. Though they do have the videos online for you to watch and that helps being able to see the people moving. However, it's 2 guys signing to each other so they tend to turn to face each other and so you can't always quite see exactly what they're doing with their hands either. Would've been better if they were turned to face the camera straight on since that's how you would be signing to whoever you're talking to, you know facing each other. So it's good, and helping me along. But definitely needs some sort of improvement, even with this just being the basics.
There is NO DVD...product description is mis-leading.Sitting for hours staring at pages does nothing for me, but that's me...this may work for you.Just don't expect to get what's advertised.

I have a psychological issue with the whole "for Dummies" name, so it took me a long time to be willing to add this book to my collection. However, but this book is well written, well laid out, and well researched. The illustrations and descriptive text are both clear and easy to understand.If you're not a "dummy" this is still a good book.
Didn’t come with dvd but that’s ok. I didn’t buy it for the dvd. I have been trying to learn asl since November 2018 and I just wanted some books for when I didn’t feel like scowering the internet for input.
Arrived this morning in pristine condition! Thank you so much Amazon!Viewed this book online and love it even more now that I have the hard copy. Will be taking ASL course at our local community college later this year. Will be studying a bit ahead of time.
