This story of mystery, past crimes, current crimes and finding love amidst all those painful situations, is well written and truly touching. Two lonely souls, hurt and crossed by past romance, find each other. Eva and Austin have learned to live alone and lonely, grasping their faith to maintain hope. Austin is a detective in the K9 unit of Sagebrush, TX. In the past his relationships have been brief and painful. He's withdrawn into his career with his K9 partner. Justice a talented bloodhound tracker. He and Austin usually find who they track, sometimes with unhappy, sometimes joyous results. Eva is a single mom, working as a waitress, going to college to be a teacher and raising her son Brady, pretty much on her own. When Brady is kidnapped and Austin comes into their lives, Eva finds it hard to accept Austin, and he has his doubts about her. But as the mystery and danger are unveiled they both realize how important they can be to each other, along with Brady & Justice. This is a story of heartwarming moments, threatening situations and binding family love. Excellent start to the series.
When I heard about this new K9 series, I was very excited. This book didn't let me down. Tracking Justice is the first in the Texas K-9 Unit series, and in this book we follow Detective Austin Black and his bloodhound dog Justice. From the first few pages, this book drew me in. Eva is a single mom with a little boy named Brady who is kidnapped. The action doesn't stop once Brady is rescued and we move from one crisis to the next in the search for Brady's kidnappers and the larger crime ring behind it all. The author did a great job of weaving together Eva's personal story--her parents were murdered--into the current plot. The love story between Eva and Austin felt believable. And I absolutely loved the connection between Brady and Justice. I will definitely keep reading this series. Recommend for suspense and animal lovers. The faith element was spot on. Here's one of my favorite quotes: "That's a lot of fear for someone who says she has faith." He raked a hand through his hair, took a sip of coffee. "I do have faith. In God. Not in myself." McCoy, Shirlee (2013-01-01). Tracking Justice (Texas K-9 Unit) (p. 195). Love Inspired. Kindle Edition.
This book drew me in from the first chapter. Eva is a single mom, that has always had to do everything herself. She is a waitress, and she is going to school. She wants a better life for her, and her 7 year old son. When her son Brady was kidnapped, She couldn't just sit by and wait, and watch. She followed the lead K-9 detective against his wishes, on the search. The action doesn't stop there. This was a heart wrenching story line, with a good ending. My only complaint was Eva's fears and her doubts were said over, and over throughout the book. It made it sound like she was whining. It was annoying to read the same thing over and over again. Austin did make a perfect and patient Hero. This book was more on an emotional level. The physical was limited to a few times Austin Kissed Eva. Eva maintained her guarded heart, and kept her doubts throughout the book, breaking free the last chapter.
I have always enjoyed novels of suspense and intrigue along with a few surprises thrown in for readers to discover. Recently, I began a new series by various authors in a series called Texas K-9 Unit. Here is a tale that has elements of mystery, faith, hope, action and danger. Eva is a single mother with a young boy to raise who meets a local police officer and his dog when one horrible night her son is removed from their home.Austin is the officer who, like Eva, has fears about developing a relationship due to hurts in the past. However, Eva’s heart is starting to soften as she sees that her son needs a good male figure in his life and maybe her heart’s desires are also found in Austin. The series continues with two other novels, Detection Mission written by Margret Daley and Guard Duty by Sharon Dunn.Reading novels that are entertaining with suspense, mystery and faith are a great way to spend time regardless of the weather! Reading too is a fun activity to share with friends and family, perhaps even swapping books. In any case, Love Inspired Suspense novels are inexpensive, making them available for readers of all ages to acquire. Plus, it is a great way to engage the heart and mind without concern for the content. I plan on reading the other two novels in the series as a couple of the characters introduced in this story are brought forth with a tale of their own to share.
I'm extremely surprised by the high ratings on this book. In my opinion, this is far from Shirlee McCoy's best book. First off, it was extremely short, second, I had to keep re-reading as her action descriptions were so jumpy, I could hardly picture what was going on. Third, there are plot points that just go nowhere. (While searching for the boy in the woods, an injured woman shows up, confused. Later, we are told she is still confused, and then we never hear another word about her! Is there supposed to be a sequel? It definitely wasn't hinted at.) Fourth, the "gotta guard my heart" plot is just so overused, I want to cry. Fifth, the romance is written so clumsily, with so much tedious inner dialogue, there are no real sparks here. Sixth, while other reviewers found this to be suspenseful, I really didn't, I kept reading, hoping something interesting or truly romantic would happen, and then, suddenly it was over. This book felt like it was just cranked out, with no one checking the facts (would a police dept. really pay an informer $10,000 for information they basically already knew? Would the whole K-9 unit know this informers name? Wouldn't that be kept kind of a secret between the informer and one detective?) or whether the action descriptions made sense or if there were dangling plot points.Very disappointing.
