My criteria for my first read of the year usually is as follows: an author I know and love, a book I’ve been highly anticipating and something that’s easy to read. My Lady Jane easily met all three requirements, so I didn’t hesitate to dive right into it on the first of January. And, truth be told, I couldn’t have picked a better choice! Jane Grey is known in actual history to be the “nine day queen”, Edward VI’s successor for a little over a week. No one really knows what happened, and in response to the “what if” hanging in the air, authors Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand and Jodi Meadows worked together to tell the (not so true) (but oh so fun) tale of the Lady Jane Grey.My Lady Jane is a book that is meant to entertain in a gloriously funny, satisfying way. The narration is excellent, complete with wry observations, witty retorts and a dash of whimsy. I was hooked right from the start! (And no, it’s not just because I find British royal history fascinating, though that was definitely another reason I enjoyed it.) I loved the tone, which made it feel like I was reading someone’s journal or hearing a storyteller tell the tale. I loved the switches between characters, because it was all too interesting to discover what was going on with each individual. I loved the humor, because it is so rare for a novel to make me laugh out loud (and I did laugh reading this one, and multiple times). I loved the magic, which was simple but still so entertaining. It was certainly all too easy to get swept up in learning what was to become of Jane, Guildford and Edward, and it was just impossible to do anything but see these three through to the end of their story.Can you tell I was happily entertained by this tale? Because I was! The combination of magic, history and humor (with just a tiny bit of romance) was utterly irresistible. Whether you’re fascinated by actual history or a total newbie to Jane’s story, this novel is guaranteed to make you crack a smile, if not elicit fully on belly laughs. I know I enjoyed it, and I certainly think that plenty of other readers will too.

Lady Jane Grey or Dudley as known throughout history was queen for nine days following her cousin’s abrupt death. “My Lady Jane” is a comedic retelling of this very tale in history except there’s a few twists and turns. In the novel, there are two types of people; the edians and the verities. Edians have the ability to turn into animals which upsets the verities. This will come into play the majority of the plot.When Edward finds out he’s sick, he gets worse and worse. Lord Dudley told him to make Jane the queen, sounds great right? Wrong. This occurs around the time when he also has Edward marry Jane off to his son Gifford. Gifford is an edian without control of his power and Jane, this is something y’all book lovers can relate to, she loves to read! Their relationship slowly builds up as Jane really didn’t want marriage. She’d begged Edward not to marry her to Gifford.This book is a fantastic retelling. The comedic aspects of the novel were amazing. Personally, I love historical fiction so that also played a major part in my love for the novel. I mean, it’s set in the 1500’s! My main concern heading into this novel though was the hype. I don’t know what it is about me but generally, I don’t like retellings. Retellings are the kind of make it or break it genre in the book community but really I ended up loving this! Honestly though, the comedy is ever so slightly repetitive but personally, I didn’t mind.This novel brought history to life, well more or less, the fact is that this novel did follow the majority of the true tale of Lady Jane Grey. In fact, I never dreamed I’d end up reading this novel. The characters grow so much throughout the novel, it’s a precious thing to be able to watch them grow in relationships. Jane and Gifford have that special love we all are looking for in life.Finally, I adored this novel and can’t wait for the next novel in the series, “My Plain Jane”! “My Lady Jane” is now one of my favorite books, if you ever see it, pick it up and you won’t be disappointed. You’ll find you’re on the edge of your seat the entire read! I’ll be giving this a 4.2 out of 5 stars! Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!

About the Author

Emily Hawbaker has always had energy and a passion for science and education. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Earth science and a minor in science education, she began teaching eighth grade science. I bought this book for my son's sixth birthday. We are always looking for "science stuff" to do. I'm sure there are zillions of experiments and such online, but I never seem to find them when I need them. This book is packed with probably 40 really fun experiments that are perfect for a kid his age. I went to the store and loaded up on supplies for the book and we are having a blast going through it. Highly recommended!

I'm a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) professional (a bio-engineer in my particular case). A huge part of why I'm the person I am today is because of an early exposure to really engaged and involved teachers (and my parents) who continually reinforced my natural curiosity about physics and chemistry and natural sciences.I really love seeing science books aimed at younger audiences with fun (safe!) experiments which encourage kids to explore and reason and learn while having fun. I could definitely see these experiments being used in a classroom setting or as part of a homeschooling unit.At the beginning of the book, before the experiment sections is a general intro with safety information as well as an encouragement to keep notes in a lab notebook (and refer back to them). There is also a link for downloading the lab charts which appear in the book.The lab experiments are arranged in 5 sections with labs which explain and support each concept. The five sections are: Energy basics, Forms of Energy and Energy Transformations, Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy Sources, Using Energy, and Saving Energy.Each of the 40 lab experiments begin with ingredients list and safety notes. The labs are very well illustrated with numerous photographs. Studying energy in our homeschooling, this is a FANTASTIC book! Every experiment is written and organized well. Materials lists are clear and typically dont need a mountain of stuff or odd ball/expensive things you'd have to preorder. I have found the time estimates accurate. Each experiment has been fun and informative. I have and have looked at many experiment books and this is head and shoulders better than most/all. A definate buy if youre on the fence as I bought after first finding at our local library. Its definately something we will use again and again, even if it was just for fun activities. I could easily see a regular school parent using this to keep their kiddos science mind and thinking skills sharp over a break time. :) It is fun for all and most take >5min prep.

About the Author

Nathan L. Essex is a professor of Educational Law and Leadership at the University of Memphis and President of Southwest Tennessee Community College. He received a B.S. in English at Alabama A&M University, an M.S. in Educational Administration at Jacksonville State University, and a Ph.D. in Administration and Planning at the University of Alabama.     Essex’s interests include law, educational policy, and personnel administration. He has served as consultant for more than 100 school districts and numerous educational agencies. He served as a policy consultant with the Alabama State Department of Education for 12 years and received numerous awards in recognition of his contributions to the field of education.  He is the recipient of the Truman M. NO audio format no text to voice option making the text a must read at home and useless for the long commutes useless for studying with this book. I cant even put this book on read when writing responses. I paid a lot for a 22 hour a day paper weight. Thanks for the two hours less sleep a day Pearson.

I found the book easy to read and understand. The court cases were interesting and relevant to my course of study. It adequately prepared me for the Florida Educator Leadership Exam, which I passed on the first try. The condition of the book was good in that it did not have any marks on the inside; however, the cover is getting worn and was torn in a couple of places. Overall, I would rent from Amazon again in the future.

Lots of great content in this law book. The cases are very useful. I probably should have rented it as it was pretty expensive but thought this may be a book that will be useful to have in the future.

An easy read! I enjoyed reading the book. Prior to the book purchase, i knew little about education law. The book was easy to read and is a great resource to have. The only bad thing is that there is no Kindle version for paperlite. Im able to read it ONLY on my computer through the Kindle app. I couldn;t read it wherever I am with my Kindle.

I use this book as the main text for my school law class. I have found it to be easy to read and understand. As the main text, my students get the overall picture of issues facing school administrators and teachers. This gives them a better understanding of the pit falls and how important it is to know and understand the law.

Just finished with my educational law class for my masters. This book is VERY repetitive but the chapters are organized well and it has tons of valuable information. I wish it had more factual court case examples.

A very simple and plainly written book. All pages are written in black and without any pictures of the meals. However the book does provide the needed information to meal prep for keto meals. Keto on!

This book addressed some of the issues of learning a new lifestyle. I liked the recipes but found their suggested menu to be boring as you’re repeating the same meals all week long. Some people may like the convenience but I don’t like to eat leftovers that much. However, you dont have to follow their meal plans, it’s just a suggestion to help get you going without a lot of hassle. I was given this book by the publisher for an honest review.
